Sciatica Treatment in Bury
About Sciatica
Sciatica is a very common symptom affecting the sciatic nerve, the largest and longest spinal nerve in the body. This nerve runs from the lower back, through the pelvis, down into each leg, and into the feet.
Sciatic pain can begin gradually and intensify over time, and can be aggravated by sitting, coughing, or sneezing. Symptoms can vary widely from a mild ache to sharp, shooting, burning and/or excruciating discomfort. For some, pain can be severe and debilitating, for others, symptoms may be infrequent and irritating but have the potential to worsen.

Our Approach to Sciatica
Once we have ascertained the cause of your sciatica and determined whether Chiropractic and/or Spinal Decompressive-Oscillation is right for you we can design a care plan just for you.
Spinal Decompressive- oscillation therapy helps by gently stretching and oscillating the spine in a controlled manner to reduce pressure on the discs and nerves.
Chiropractic can help by restoring spinal movement to help improve function whilst decreasing pain and inflammation. Our care plans cover many different types of techniques including- but not limited to -spinal adjustments, stretches, rehabilitative exercises, Spinal Decompressive-Oscillation, ergonomic advice and ice/heat therapy which will help to eventually relieve the pain caused by the irritated nerve.
We look at the body as a whole rather than concentrating only on the area where the symptoms are, as the body is a unit and must move like a well-oiled machine.
Chiropractic and Spinal Decompressive-oscillation can act as catalysts, speeding up the natural history of the condition so you can obtain relief faster.
First Time Visitors
Relief Care
Our first goal is to relieve your symptoms as quickly as possible. The severity of your condition will determine the length of this phase. Typically, the number of visits in this phase is frequent and can involve multiple visits to the centre each week.
Rehabilitative / strengthen and corrective phase
During this phase of care, the goal is to remove the root cause of your problem and to restore optimal function. This phase of care is also dependent upon the severity of the problem. The frequency of care can still be multiple visits per week, but unlikely to be as frequent as the relief phase of care.
Wellness Care
Once your body has had the chance to heal, we believe it is important to continue with care by having periodic checkups to help prevent future problems and to enable your body to continue to function at its most optimal level. Your lifestyle, health goals, and practitioner’s advice will determine the frequency of care that is right for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
We have helped many people with sciatica and have seen great results. It is important to determine the cause of your sciatica and we will always perform a thorough consultation and examination to ascertain whether Chiropractic is suitable for you.
Symptoms are your body‘s way of communicating to you that there is an underlying problem which needs to be addressed. Symptoms can come and go, and move around the body, but are not indicative of how well or how poorly your body is functioning.
We liken symptoms to that of a fire alarm going off in a building. When you hear the fire alarm ringing, there is likely to be a fire. In this scenario you do not want somebody to come and take the batteries out of the fire alarm so you cannot hear the ringing; rather, you want somebody to come and put the fire out.
In our experience the earlier something is addressed, the better the long-term outcome. So many people have told us that they wished they had come to see us years ago.
Us! Sciatica is something we have seen thousands of times over the years and have had great results with. Nice (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) guidelines recommend considering manual therapy from a Chiropractor for those suffering from lower back pain, with or without sciatica.
