About Hip Pain

The hips are large, weight-bearing joints, and as they are involved in nearly all our movements, hip pain can severely impact our lives.

If the nerves are irritated in the lower part of the back, the pain signal can travel along the nerve and pain can occur in areas the nerve travels or passes through, which in this example is the hip.

If the pelvis, knees or the feet are not functioning correctly they can also impact on the way the hips function.

Our Approach to Hip Pain

As there are many causes of hip pain, a consultation and thorough examination with a Chiropractor can be one of the best ways of determining the source of your pain and establishing the correct plan of management and care program for you.

First Time Visitors

Relief Care

Our first goal is to relieve your symptoms as quickly as possible. The severity of your condition will determine the length of this phase. Typically, the number of visits in this phase is frequent and can involve multiple visits to the centre each week.

Rehabilitative / strengthen and corrective phase

During this phase of care, the goal is to remove the root cause of your problem and to restore optimal function. This phase of care is also dependent upon the severity of the problem. The frequency of care can still be multiple visits per week, but unlikely to be as frequent as the relief phase of care.

Wellness Care

Once your body has had the chance to heal, we believe it is important to continue with wellness care by having periodic adjustments to help prevent future problems and enable your body to continue to function at its most optimal level. Your lifestyle, health goals and practitioner’s advice will determine the frequency of care for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is hip pain felt?

Hip pain can be felt inside the hip and groin, as well as the outside of the hips, thighs and buttocks. It can also refer down into the legs and into the lower back.

Why does hip pain occur?

Knee, foot and lower back problems can cause hip pain, as well as inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, bursitis and tendinitis. Muscle strains in and around the hip can also affect the way the hips function, as can  systemic conditions and injuries.

Can hip pain and hip problems cause pain elsewhere?

Yes, it can. The body should move like a well-oiled machine and a problem or pain in one area can adversely affect and cause a problem or pain in another area. Hip problems can cause pain in the back, groin, or even the knee and feet.
